HackTV team up with ex-journalist and local historian Sue Gerrard to bring you a unique collaboration. You’ll learn timeless principles of journalism and storytelling and how to tell that story with video.

This course is suitable for people with little technical experience.

Day 1 – A masterclass in PR with Sue Gerrard

Writing a press release is one thing, writing a press release that gets you, your company and your services noticed is quite another, it is an important skill in itself. In this one-day course Sue Gerrard an experienced journalist, author and event organiser will teach the basics of writing a press release using the skills of journalism to create not just words on paper but a story to be noticed. Participants will learn how to source a story within their business, angling a story, the key components of a good story and the skills needed to put together a competent and coherent press release.

Days 2 and 3 – Video for social media

In days 2 and 3 we show you how to turn that press release in front of a camera.

We’ll show you how to present in front of the camera more confidently and use many techniques to create a more engaging and professional performance.

We then move on to the tech. You’ll learn to get results from BOTH cheap and more professional tech.

  • How to choose and use the right microphone.
  • How to build and light a very simple YouTube style “home office” studio.
  • How to use a smartphone/camera to get a better result
  • Video editing. This will include editing, using free stock audio and video, and uploading to your favourite platform.
